FAISALABAD, Dec 13: Hundreds of transporters and traders of Samundri Town blocked traffic on Tuesday to protest against the killing of a wagon driver in a dacoity bid.
Reports said dacoits looted valuables and cash from passengers of a wagon (FDK-1066) on Samundri-Tarkhani Road on Monday night and shot dead driver Tayyab Shah when he tried to resist. The outlaws managed to escape.
Drivers of some other vehicles alleged that despite being informed immediately, the area police arrived a couple of hours after the crime. On knowing about the killing, the transporters and shopkeepers gathered on the main road to protest. They blocked Tarkhani Road by erecting barricades and burning old tyres. They were chanting slogans against the police and demanded immediate arrest of culprits.
The blockade continued for about three hours on Tuesday morning as the protesters refused to talk to the area police. SP (Headquarters) Amjad Kareem held dialogue with the protesters and assured them that the culprits would be nabbed. After this assurance, the transporters dispersed peacefully.
