LAKKI MARWAT: A man was shot dead outside a fruit market here on Monday, the police said.

Officials said unknown gunmen killed Pir Shafiq, 45, near the fruit and vegetable market in Naurang town. They said the body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Mohammad Rafiq Ali Shah, a brother of the deceased, told the police that he left his brother outside the market and went inside for shopping. “All of a sudden I heard gunshots and people ran here and there for life,” he maintained.

He told the police that he found his brother lying in a pool of blood when he came outside the market. The complainant said his family had no enmity with anyone.

The Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station registered a case against unknown killers.

Separately, a student of a government polytechnic institute was shot at and injured in Ghaznikhel area. The victim, Sajid Khan, 18, told the police that Ali Mohammad and Waqar Khan opened fire on him when he was on way home after appearing in examination at the institute. He said the attackers escaped on a motorcycle. He said one of the attackers, Waqar Khan was forcing him to befriend with him.

The Ghaznikhel police started investigations after lodging a case.

RESHUFFLED: District police officer Ziauddin Ahmed reshuffled five officials on Monday.

An official said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Zahidullah was made SHO of Dadiwala police station. Sub-inspector Gul Janan, waiting for posting in the police lines, was posted to the judicial complex to supervise security arrangements there.

Ghaznikhel police station ASI Waseeullah replaced ASI Anwar Khattak as in-charge officer of Rescue 15. ASI Khattak has been directed to assume charge at Wanda Aurangzeb checkpost as in-charge officer. ASI Taimoor Khan has been made reader to the district police officer.
