BAHAWALPUR: The revenue of the Cantonment Board, Bahawalpur, (CBB) has gone up from Rs630m to Rs920m within two years, showing a 40pc increase coming mainly from commercial plazas and shopping centres built on commercial sites.

This was stated by CBB Executive Officer Rana Ramiz Shafqat during a briefing to Military Lands and Cantonments Director General Maj Gen Tariq Zameer here on Friday.

Mr Shafqat said the CBB had spent Rs450m on the development works and renovation as part of the projects that included five parks, nine carpeted roads, 16 water filtration plants, underground sewerage schemes and pavements in about 100 streets, especially in rural areas of the Cantt limits.

He added that in order to fetch revenue, the CBB had built commercial plazas and shopping centres at various commercial sites in the boundary of the cantonment board.

The DG commended efforts of CBB to increase its revenue and provide basic amenities to the dwellers of its residential areas.

During his visit, the DG was accompanied by Military Land and Cantonments director Zeenat Ahmed and Station Commander/President, Cantonment Board, Bahawalpur Brig Abdul Rashid.

The DG visited the sites of development projects, parks and education and health facilities. He paid homage to the late Bahawalpur Nawab at the Sadiq Memorial where his statue had been installed.
