KARACHI: A young medical student died in a road accident in the small hours of Wednesday morning, police said.

South-SSP Asad Raza said that a pedestrian came in front of the motorcycle of Abdullah Khan Khattak, 21, at the FTC flyover at about 1:45am.

Khattak fell from the motorbike and sustained a serious head injury. The pedestrian also suffered injuries and both of them were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.

The deceased was a third-year student of the Aga Khan University.

Police Surgeon Dr.Summaiya Syed said that the injured pedestrian appeared to be in his late 30s. He was admitted in the Neurosurgery Ward of the JPMC in critical condition, she added.

In a tweet, the varsity said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our dear student and friend, Abdullah Khattak (MBBS ‘24), who met with a motorcycle crash earlier today. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends.”

His grief-stricken friends took to social media to remember him. Many of them believed that the accident took place when Khattak tried to save the passer-by. #abdullahkhattak was trending in Pakistan with more than 3,700 tweets.

Talking to Dawn, Khattak’s elder brother Majid recalled that his younger brother was determined to achieve his goal.

The family had asked him to get admission into the Khyber Medical University but he was determined to study at AKU, he said, adding that he had left his home in Peshawar and came to Karachi to become doctor.
