PESHAWAR: The health department has recommended reconstitution of the Board of Governors of Medical Teaching Institution Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital, Bannu, after series of strikes by employees against the board members and their subsequent resignation.

A summary sent to Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Wednesday stated that the recommendation had been made after resignation of the board members.

It said that BoG constituted in March 2020 had initiated different measures in the hospital, but later a series of strikes started due to differences between the BoG and some staff members, which affected the service delivery.

The summary said health minister Taimur Khan Jhagra had also held a meeting with board members, during which, the members, including chairperson Aasia Khan, insisted the strike was started when they took disciplinary action against an individual for having dual job in violation of rules, which the Young Doctors Association wanted to reverse.

The minister told the BoG members that they had to take responsibility for the alleged financial mismanagement in the hospital, which did not go well with the board members, leading to their resignation.

As per the summary, the health minister has proposed to the chief minister that the two members – Dr Mohammad Rauf and Rahat Gul – who had been nominated by the Search and Nomination Council on June 8, and weren’t part of the developments taking place in the hospital, along with new members, including Dr Samad Wazir, Mohammad Saeed Khan and Dr Saeedullah Shah (as chairman BoG) should make the new board.
