OKARA/KASUR: A man died and 11 others were injured in rain-related incidents in Okara and Kasur districts on Tuesday.

In Okara, a man died while five other people suffered injuries in different incidents across the district that received 30.4mm rain on the night between Monday and Tuesday. The rain was accompanied by a thunderstorm.

In Chak 10/1R Renal Khurd, a wall collapsed, burying one Rashid Ahmad under it. In other incidents, five people, including two minor children who suffered injuries when a motorcycle overturned in the heavy rains.

At the time of filing this story, it has been raining intermittently for the last 18 hours in the district while Okara city’s bazaars and streets were flooded with rainwater.

The thickly populated localities like Seth Colony, Hussain Colony, Samadpura, Ahmadabad, Basti Bhor and Mansoorabad localities faced issues as rainwater accumulated there. The municipal staff had only one water pumps to drain water from choked drains.

The people demanded Deputy Commissioner Zahid Pervaiz Warraich, the administrator of the district council, look into the matter.

Meanwhile, the farmers welcomed the rain after a long spell of dry hot weather, saying it would be beneficial for the crops, especially in view of rising cost of fuel for irrigation of a variety of paddy and fodder crops.

In Kasur, six members of a family, including five children, suffered injuries as the roof of their Gulberg Colony house caved in amid heavy rain that lashed the city on Tuesday.

The Rescue 1122 identified the injured as Hassan Din (60) and his grandchildren, namely Farhan (6), Asadullah (6), Umme Rubab (5), Hassan (7) and Umera (8).

The rescuers shifted the injured to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital for treatment where their condition was stated to be stable.
