PAF retain title 5th time in a row

PESHAWAR, Dec 10: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) retained the title of the Inter-services tennis championship for fifth successive year defeating Army in the final on Saturday.

PAF, comprising Waheed Mughal, Atif, Fayyaz Khan, Inam Gul, Shahzad Khan and Shahid Afridi, beat Army 4-1.

Army, consisting of Majid, Syed Muhamad Jalal, Taimur, Omar and Salman tried their best against PAF to get into the best of five final with four singles and one doubles.

Army’s skipper Syed Muhammad Jalal-Taimur defeated PAF’s Atif and Fayyaz in a marathon three-set doubles’ battle 2-1. PAF secured wins in all the four singles to make it 4-1.

PAF defeated Army and Navy 4-1 while Army in their turn shocked Navy 3-2 during the five-day event.

Results:

Singles: Inam Gul, bt Omer 6-3, 6-1, Shahid Afridi bt Jalal 6-2, 6-1, Shahzad bt Taimur 6-6, 6-1, Fayyaz bt Salman 6-2, 6-0.

Doubles: Syed Muhammad Jalal-Taimur bt Atif H Khan-Fayyaz 6-3, 2-6, 6-0.—APP
