LAHORE: The Punjab Police and the University of Health Sciences (UHS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance mutual cooperation to promote education and research.
The MoU was signed by Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan and UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Javed Akram.
Speaking on the occasion, the IGP said the research culture in police was being promoted through partnership with educational institutions so that the students could get internship opportunities in police offices and police could benefit from their research. Moreover, he added, timely steps could be taken for improvement in service delivery by research reports of students.
“Under the MoU, the two institutions will enhance human resource development and cooperation for educational and research purposes,” the IGP said.
Dr Akram said the UHS would play the role of a facilitator in providing medical facilities to the police personnel in the hospitals affiliated to the university.
On the occasion, DIG Welfare Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani said that according to the MoU, the UHS would provide all possible assistance to police personnel in matters related to forensic sciences while the UHS seats would be allocated for police personnel in the institutions for admission to MPhil and PhD programmes. He said the MPhil and PhD students would write theses on the topics related to police and both institutions would take all possible steps for public awareness projects.
“Under the MoU, training sessions will be organised at the UHS for capacity building of investigating officers in the field of forensic science,” Mr Qaisrani said.
At the end of the ceremony, shields were exchanged between IGP Rao Sardar Ali Khan and UHS VC.
UVAS: A UK delegation visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences on Friday to review ongoing project “Development and commercialisation of antibiotic alternatives: phages and nutraceuticals for Pakistan poultry production”.
This collaboration between the Purdue University and the UVAS is focused on developing non-antibiotic means to control infections for Pakistan’s rapidly growing poultry industry.
