Ahmad Fraz’s poetry in sculptures

Published December 11, 2005

MULTAN, Dec 10: An exhibition of sculptures illustrating verses of renowned poet Ahmad Fraz was held here on Saturday. The rare incarnation of his verses into some exquisite pieces of art made in plaster of Paris has been done by sculptor Sadiq Ali Shahzad. Fraz attended the inaugural ceremony at a local hotel.

Eulogizing Shahzad’s work, the poet said it was a matter of honour for him that a fine sculptor had embodied his poetry into impressive sculptures.

He said figurative illustration of poetry was not a straightforward medium as it demanded both skill and intellect. A self-taught artist, Sadiq Ali Shahzad, said poetry and music had been his basic artistic inspirations since his childhood. He said he had earlier illustrated the poetic work of Ghalib, Momin, Iqbal, Faiz, Khwaja Farid and Parveen Shahkir through sculptures.— Correspondent
