ISLAMABAD: The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) students protest echoed in the National Assembly on Wednesday as deputy speaker Zahid Akram Durrani directed the federal government to get the university reopen as soon as possible and take action against the elements behind the closure. The education activities have been suspended in the International Islamic University Islamabad for the last three days, as students are protesting against what they claimed rampant corruption in university, lack of hostel facility and non-implementation of a senate committee report related to a murder case of IIUI student, who was killed in 2019 during clashes between two groups of students.

However, International Islamic University Islamabad spokesperson Nasir Farid claimed that the students who were found guilty of inciting clashes between two groups in January this year were behind the current protest to get relaxation on penalty imposed upon them.

PPP MNA Qadir Khan Mandokhail took up the issue on floor of the house stating that since 2014, a student organisation had taken over university and university is closed for the last few days.

In response to his speech, MNA Moulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali stated that Jamaat-i-Islami and Islami Jamiat Taleba are peaceful organisations and they have not taken over IIUI.

He also stated that university should be reopened immediately.

Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani directed the federal government to get the university reopened as soon as possible and take action against the elements behind the closure of university.

International Islamic University Islamabad spokesperson said that the university had rescheduled exams, which will now be started from Monday adding that IIUI had expressed its commitment to ensure the restoration of peace in the university.
