SUKKUR: Enraged leaders of the Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu), Khairpur, entered the office of Prof Dr Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, a member of the university syndicate, and humiliated him for opposing a proposed condition for the promotion of teaching assistants, according to a spokesperson for the institution.

Leaders of the Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Association (Saluta) Prof Dr Akhtiar Ali Ghumro (president), Prof Dr Hissamuddin Shaikh (general secretary), Dr Mujeeb ur Rehman Abro, Dr Siraj Ahmed Soomro and Mr Ahmed Ali Memon on Monday entered the office of Dean Faculty of Arts and Languages Prof Dr Ghulam Mustafa Mashori, the senior most faculty member, and humiliated him by using harsh, abusive and immoral language, according to a press release issued by Salu administration.

They subjected him to threats and forced him to immediately quit his office, it said, adding that the Saluta leaders were enraged over Professor Mashori’s act of opposing the proposed condition for teaching assistants’ promotion, that their experience should be counted, at the advent of the 84th meeting of Salu syndicate.

It argued that all the learned and respected members of the syndicate had the equal right to express their point of view, either for or against, and even submit a note of dissent, disagreement and observation as per the syndicate’s rules of business enshrined in the relevant Act.

It said that the “Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto has expressed his dismay and sorrow over the situation created by the above group of the teachers; majority of the teaching fraternity supports the action taken by the VC”.
