TOBA TEK SINGH: The Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), which had earlier spread in Karachi, hit animals here in Gojra area as hundreds of cattle suffered from it in different villages and four buffaloes of farmer Haider Ali died of the disease on Wednesday at Chak 158-GB.

When contacted livestock department additional director Dr Ijaz Hussain said: “It’s a viral disease which relatively caused low mortality and it spreads by biting insects, mosquitoes and ticks.”

Hussain confirmed that some LSD cases had been reported in Gojra area; however, he said he had no information about the death of four animals of a farmer.

He said he was informed about death of an animal due to suspected LSD and its autopsy was privately conducted but its report had not so far been shared with him.

He claimed that the department had started vaccination. He alleged that propaganda about the outbreak of LSD was being spread by medicine manufacturer companies to sell their product.

MILK DAY: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad marked the World Milk Day with the theme “safe milk safe nation” and arranged a seminar and a walk on Wednesday.

The event was arranged by faculty of animal husbandry in collaboration with Dairy Lac Limited and Dairy Cattle Farm Association at Syndicate room.

UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan called for concerted efforts to end adulteration in milk. He asked the dairy experts to increase per animal production and also develop the byproduct of the milk in order to combat the malnutrition issue.

He said: “Milk is the perfect food but the issue of adulteration at the mass level is the real crisis for which joint efforts would bring about the tangible results.”

Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry Prof Dr Qamar Bilal said the milk composition constituted 60 per cent buffalo, 36pc cow and 4pc goat, sheep and camel.

Around 95pc of milk is being sold in raw form and the rest in pasteurised state.
