HARIPUR/SWABI: Wildfire destroyed a vast area of forest adjacent to Tarbela switchyard, official sources said here on Sunday, adding that timely rescue operation helped save the Tarbela Dam’s installations.

They said that the fire erupted in the forest near the Tarbela Dam at around midday and started moving towards the switchyard area with winds blowing in the same direction.

However, timely operation by firefighters from Ghazi, Tarbela Dam, Gadoon and Swabi succeeded to put out the wildfire after an effort of about three hours.

In Swabi, an official Luqman Khan said that the firefighters managed to control the fire near the Tarbela Dam Power House in which the Tarbela administration and staff fully cooperated.

The officials said that they had started investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire.
