HUNTING IN BALOCHISTAN: Hunting is common in Balochistan. The locals as well as visitors hunt animals, such as deer and rabbit, and birds in large numbers, putting them at risk of extinction. Recently, a group of people hunted almost 20 rabbits in a single day. Their population is decreasing by the day. Animals certainly deserve better. The government must take urgent action to save wildlife.

SALARY INCREMENT: One of the first announcements made by the new government was a 10 per cent increase in salaries of government employees. Later, it took a U-turn and said the matter was still under consideration. Apparently, the promise was made to calm down possibly frayed nerves. These tactics have been used in the past as well. The government should increase the salaries and provide job opportunities to the unemployed.

HUB LIBRARY: The public library in Hub has been facing a number of problems. It functions without a librarian, while the visitors do not even get to have drinking water on the premesis. The electricity is disrupted several times a day. As a result, students face great difficulty in studying during this hot weather. Hub city is the industrial zone of Balochistan which can facilitate students by providing them scholarships and other opportunities in large numbers. The local administration must resolve the issues of the local library on a priority basis.

DEBATABLE PRIORITIES: Within hours of taking the oath of office, the new prime minister took certain decisions related to diplomatic passports that should have attracted the attention of some legal experts. Maybe the apex court shall intervene by taking suo motu notice instead of waiting for a petition to be filed. Owing to such abuse, the green passport has lost its respect in the eyes of the international community.
