QUETTA: An army officer was martyred and a soldier injured in a heavy exchange of fire with terrorists in the Awaran area of Balochistan, said the Inter-Services Public Relations on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media affairs wing, the terrorists raided a security forces’ post in the general area of Kahan near Awaran on the night between April 21 and 22.

Having successfully repulsed the raid, the security forces pursued the escaping terrorists into the nearby mountains. At one of the blocking positions established to cut off the fleeing terrorists, a heavy exchange of fire took place between terrorists and the security forces.

During the skirmish, Major Shahid Basheer embraced martyrdom and another soldier suffered injuries while causing heavy losses to the terrorists.

The ISPR said security forces remain determined to thwart attempts at sabotaging peace in Balochistan.
