One gets death, another jail term in rape cases

MUZAFFARGARH: An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday handed down death penalty to a person convicted of rape and jail term to another convict.

AD&SJ Tariq Masood sentenced Qalandar Abbas to death for raping a woman. The convict will have to undergo jail term and pay fine as well. The Saddar police had registered a case against him on on the direction of District Police Officer Tariq Wilayat.

In a rape case of Rohilanwali area, the judge awarded jail term and Rs50,000 fine to Ifran Ali. He was convicted of raping a five-year old girl.

LAND GRAB: The district administration and police are set to take action against land grabbers in Leshariwala forest where a PTI MPA allegedly tried to occupy the forest land.

On the complaint of PML-N MPA Malik Qasim Hinjra, District Police Officer Tariq Wilayat constituted a team which will launch an operation against illegal occupants.

The forest is in Head Taunsa Barrage area and three fire incidents have taken place there and six cases have been registered against more than 150 people but all the suspects got pre-arrest bail. The PTI politicians allegedly forced the district administration not to arrest any suspect.

Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza said officials had already taken action against land occupants.

DROWNS: A girl drowned in TP Link Canal at Kot Addu and another is critical on Thursday.

Hira, 10, and Fouzia slipped into canal while playing along its bank. Locals informed the rescuers who took out the body of Hira and shifted the other girl to the THQ hospital in a critical condition.
