THE LAWBREAKERS: The recent acts of hooliganism in Punjab Assembly make one wonder if those involved can actually be called true representatives of the common man. These are not lawmakers. They are lawbreakers. We are ashamed of having such people as legislators. They are immature and display outlandish behaviour. Have we elected these hooligans and pay them from the public exchequer to get involved in self-serving activity?

CORRECT DECISION: Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif has set a good example of punctuality and hard work by reaching his office long before the official hours. His directives to change the work hours and curtail the weekend by half are good decisions. We are celebrating the 75th anniversary of our independence this year while still lagging behind other South Asian nations. The nation needs to work long and hard with honesty, transparency and diligence to be able to move forward.

COMMODITY REPORTS: A few weeks ago, I bought one litre pack of a cooking oil brand for Rs420. A week later, it was being sold for Rs445. And this week, I bought the same pack for Rs489. The prices are increasing on a daily basis, but my salary is not. Consumers like me miss the monthly commodity report which used to appear in national newspapers on the first of every month and used to show price comparisons.

LOADSHEDDING: Muslims around the world make special arrangements for the holy month of Ramazan, but all that the residents of Thokar Niaz Baig can do is to put up with frequent and prolonged power load-shedding. The temperature in the region rises up to 40°C. Many people are compelled to skip their fast to avoid dehydration. Are the authorities concerned oblivious of the significance of the holy month? The government and power authorities should put an end to loadshedding in this month of fasting.
