Published December 6, 2005

LAHORE, Dec 5: The modern facility of e-filing of sales tax and federal excise returns has been introduced across the country for registered private and public companies. Briefing reporters here on Monday about salient features of the new facility, Muhammad Nazim Saleem, collector of sales tax, Lahore, said that about 1,500 large taxpayers out of a total of 22,000 would benefit from this facility offered by the Central Board of Revenue to provide maximum facilities to taxpayers.

He said now the registered companies would get a registration certificate from the National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) by downloading and filing the digital certificate request form from website: www.nift.pk.

Mr Saleem said that these companies would file their returns, including nil return online directly by e-mail (sales tax.return@cbr.gov.pk). He said these companies firstly will pay the due tax prescribed challan in any of designated branches of National Bank of Pakistan. He said 24 designated branches out of a total 47 had offered the online banking facility to taxpayers in the city.

He said that for further convenience of the taxpayers, a computer literate officer would act as local mail operator (LMO) in each collectorate, while Mrs Tayyab Kiyani, deputy collector, assessment and processing, had been made in-charge. He said that all big taxpayers had been informed about the facility.
