KHAR, Dec 4: Political authorities arrested 93 workers of the Awami National Party and impounded 24 vehicles in Bajaur Agency on Sunday after hundreds of tribesmen staged a demonstration against detention of a tribal elder.

Sources said the administration arrested the workers from different areas in the agency.

Witnesses said a large number of supporters of the detained chief of Salarzai tribe, Shabuddin Khan, blocked roads in the area for more than seven hours and staged a protest demonstration. Thousands of tribesmen, many of them armed, took part in the demonstration, they said. The administration had arrested the tribal leader on Saturday. Officials said he had been shifted to the Haripur Central Jail.
