Haripur, Dec 4: Minister of State for Finance Omar Ayub Khan has said that water filtration plants will be installed at the union council level. Talking to reporters during a visit to the site of the first such plant in the union council of North Haripur, he said that complaints of water-borne diseases were common in the area and added that the filtration plant would certainly help curb such diseases.

The plant, which will also be provided to three urban councils and two union councils of the Khalabat township, is being installed under the Khushal-i-Pakistan Programme.

The minister said that the government was committed to raising the living standard of people and efforts were afoot to make Haripur a model district of the country.

Referring to the ‘wireless local loop system,’ he said it would start functioning in Haripur by the end of December. Installation of lamp-posts on the GT Road, provision of natural gas to the localities of Shadi Hattar and Moonan Muradabad and installation of 75 transformers has been approved and the work on these projects would start soon, he added.

NAZIM’S CLAIM: Tehsil nazim Iftikhar Ahmed Khan has accused the provincial government of implicating him in a bogus case as a punishment for his refusal to let one of their favourites occupy a piece of land meant for a playground.

Addressing a news conference on Sunday, Mr Ahmed said that the NWFP minister for local bodies had threatened to “remove him (Iftikhar) from the post by implicating in cases”.

The nazim denied the corruption charge levelled against him in an FIR lodged on Nov 28. He announced that he would counter the ‘revengeful’ attitude of the provincial government.

The nazim and six officials of the Tehsil municipal administration, Haripur, have been accused of misappropriation, inflicting a Rs20 million loss to the exchequer and abuse of official status.
