NAWABSHAH, Dec 2: Nawabshah Taluka Nazim Abdul Rauf Khan has said that the TMA was carrying out development works to provide maximum relief to people in Nawabshah. He was talking to journalists at a reception hosted by the taluka municipal administration in a local hotel on Friday.

Mr Khan said that sanitation, drainage and supply of clean drinking water were major problems being faced by the public. He said that plans had been worked out to solve these problems.

The nazim said that 48-inch wide drainage line of the city was in a poor condition. He said that 56 new chambers were being constructed at a cost of Rs1.5 million to reduce the distance and ease the process of cleaning. He claimed that the work would improve the drainage system by 80 per cent as per survey conducted by the engineers recently.

He said that contracts of Rs2 million were awarded earlier with no results.

Mr Khan said a new contract of Rs750,000 million was now being awarded which would hopefully produce a better result as the union council would monitor the process.

He said that there was a shortage of sanitation staff for which correspondence was made with the Sindh government to allow TMA to appoint sanitation staff on contract basis so that the problem could be resolved forever.

The nazim said that there was a shortage of funds.

He said that the funds of MNAs and senators of the MQM were being used to carry out the development works.

Mr Khan said that 16 new schemes of roads would be completed and the work on three of them had already been started.

He said that notices were also being issued to the contractors to clear their liabilities up to December 31 otherwise their contracts would be cancelled.
