Town uplift programme unveiled

FAISALABAD, Nov 30: Madina Town Nazim Chaudhry Ali Akhtar Khan has said a master plan is being evolved for the beautification and uplift of the rural and urban areas of the town. Speaking to journalists here on Wednesday, he revealed that a survey had been carried out by the town’s special staff to prepare a strategy for resolving problems facing the people as well as meeting the future requirements of the commercial centres.

He said 25 major projects had been designed to upgrade the existing civic infrastructure and set up new public welfare schemes.

A new slaughterhouse would be set up in the Madina Town limits because the existing one had inadequate facilities to cater to the needs of the population of three million. Besides, he said, filth depots would be set up with facilities to recycle the waste.

He said a filling station would be established on the Jaranwala Road under the town administration’s control to augment financial resources. Modern facilities like motel, service and waiting areas would be part of the station.

According to the nazim, four lady clubs would be established in different parts of the town for which sites were being selected. The first such club would be set up adjacent to the Al-Fateh Sports Complex near Saleemi Chowk.

All residential and commercial centres of the town would have streetlights. The local administration, he said, would continue operation against encroachments.

In addition, Mr Khan said, a traffic plan had been chalked out with the help of the local police and engineers. Various road construction projects would be started immediately after the release of grants by the provincial government.

The nazim pledged that no single new tax would be imposed on the citizens, but the recovery of the dues and fees would be ensured. No huge publicity board would be installed in any part of the town and sites for this purpose would be identified with the consultation of traffic engineers and other stakeholders, he concluded.
