Breach inundates crops, village

SAHIWAL, Nov 30: Standing crops on hundreds of acres and a village were inundated after a 25-feet wide breach occurred in 3/12-L distributary of 12-L Canal on Wednesday. Reports said the breach was the result of a weak minor bank at RD-44-45. Villagers plugged the breach after a struggle of some 10 hours as the Irrigation department staff failed to reach the spot.

Punjab Peoples Kissan Committee president Zakir Husain Braal has demanded payment of compensation to the affected growers.

LOOTED: Three car riders looted the shop of a mobile phone dealer at Liaquat Chowk here on Wednesday.

Muhammad Asghar was present in his shop when three armed bandits came there, held him hostage, collected cell phones worth Rs104,000 and fled on their car (LZT-2793).
