50 doctors’ posts vacant for long

SIALKOT, Nov 30: As many as 50 posts of medical Officers, women medical officers and dental surgeons have been lying vacant since long in various hospitals of the district. District health officials told the press here on Tuesday that eight posts of lady doctors were lying vacant in Government Allama Iqbal Memorial and Government Sardar Begum Memorial DHQ hospitals. Twelve seats of women medical officers were vacant in various rural health centres.

When contacted, Sialkot EDO (Health) Dr. Khalid Mehmood told Dawn that appointment on all these posts would be made soon as the provincial government had allowed the local district government to this effect.

On the other hand, buildings of as many as 40 rural health centres are also in dire need of repair.

People have urged the Sialkot district government to allocate special funds for health sector.

DELEGATION: A delegation of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday and discussed the matters of mutual interest with the business community.
