SUKKUR, Nov 30: A man suffering from high fever and nausea who was admitted to the Sukkur Civil Hospital on Tuesday on suspicion that he is suffering from dengue fever. The patient has been kept in isolation.

The medical officer who examined him said dengue did not spread from person to person but the patient had been kept in isolation as a precautionary measure.

The doctor said the man had been referred to Karachi because the hospital did not have the facility to treat dengue patients.

Sources said Aamir Solangi, a medical representative, had come to Sukkur two days ago to attend Chehlum of his mother where he had caught high fever.

Dengue virus could be detected by carrying out two or three blood tests and the facility was not available in Sukkur.

On directives of the Sindh secretary for health, a medical board was constituted to ascertain whether Mr Solangi had dengue.

The board comprises Sukkur Civil Hospital civil surgeon Dr Imtiaz Mughal, Sardar Ghulam Mohammad Khan Medical College principal Dr Hazoor Bux Tunio, Dr Abrar Ahmad Shaikh and Dr Jawed Phulpoto,

Dr Mughal said blood samples of the patient had been sent to Karachi for laboratory tests.

He said the process would take 12 days to ascertain whether he was suffering form dengue or not.

However, he said the patient was improving and his fever was subsiding.
