THANK YOU, AUSTRALIA

THANK YOU, AUSTRALIA: As a nation, we should thank the Australian cricket team for undertaking the tour to Pakistan and to do that at full strength. We want to let the Australians know that this peace-loving nation will make you enjoy every bit of your stay here and leave you with great memories to cherish. We are forever indebted to the Australian team for playing its role in the revival of Test cricket in Pakistan. Thank you, Australia!

TEACHERS’ JOBS: The previous government in Punjab used to recruit thousands of teachers annually, but unfortunately the sitting government, whose manifesto talked about investing in education and giving employment to youth, has failed to keep such promise. No permanent job for primary and secondary schools has been announced in the last three years, while a number of vacancies have remained vacant or having temporary postings. The government should announce new recruitments and bring an end to the miseries of the unemployed.

MISSED CHANCE: When the 23 envoys, mostly from member countries of the European Union, pressed Pakistan to condemn the Russian attack on Ukraine during debate at the United Nations General Assembly, Pakistan should have immediately agreed to do that, provided all the countries concerned strongly condemned the Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir at the same forum. It seems like the Foreign Office missed a point-scoring chance in the episode.

NEPOTISM IN POLITICS: Recently, a federal minister’s brother has become mayor of Dera Ismail Khan. Family members of the ruling party’s office holders are members of national and provincial assemblies in their respective areas. It is quite unfortunate as the ruling party has always been vocal against nepotism and dynastic politics.
