Pakistan has reported 1,983 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, down 17 per cent from yesterday, marking the first time since January 10 that fewer than 2,000 infections have been recorded.

The country had reported 1,467 cases on that date.

Moreover, 26 additional fatalities have been reported compared to 33 a day earlier. The national positivity rate has been recorded at 4.1pc.

The countrywide breakdown is as follows:

  • Sindh: 717 cases, 7 deaths
  • Punjab: 502 cases, 12 deaths
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 515 cases, 5 deaths
  • Balochistan: 19 cases, 2 deaths
  • Islamabad: 89 cases
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 35 cases
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 106 cases
