ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have said Pakistan is committed to the principles and objectives of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

In their separate messages on the eve of 13th ECO Day, they appreciated significance of the ECO but also stressed the need to make it more dynamic for a meaningful regional cooperation, contributing to integration of the member states into global economy.

President Musharraf said in his message said with sustained collective efforts, regional cooperation would become more helpful in the integration of the ECO community into global economy.

He pointed out that important steps had been taken in that direction, including the adoption of ECO Vision-2015 by the ECO Council of Ministers in Kazakhstan in last October.

“The strategic location of the ECO region and our rich human and material resources promise further success,” he added.

The president said the ECO Day this year was being observed as Pakistan undertook massive reconstruction and rehabilitation work after a devastating earthquake. He appreciated the sympathy and support of the ECO members in this regard.

Prime Minister Aziz in his message said: “We have achieved important milestones and should maintain, indeed increases, the present momentum to meet the challenges still lying ahead.”
