Millers for early release of wheat

Published November 28, 2005

LAHORE, Nov 27: Flour millers on Sunday denied any upheaval in the market but asked the food department to start releasing wheat at the earliest to keep the market stable.

Talking to Dawn, Haji Ibrahim of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association said the market was largely stable in the province and wheat was available to millers, albeit not at the desired level. But there is no crisis situation either throughout the province.

Keeping in view the market situation, the food department had been deferring the release of wheat from its godowns till the end of the current month.

PFMA’s Majid Abdullah also denied pressure on the wheat market and price. Neither the wheat price had increased nor flour price. But the private market was certainly drying up with the passage of time and the food department would do better to start releasing wheat for keeping the market stable, he said.

The food department is all set to release wheat from Dec 1 to flour mills.
