KARACHI, Nov 27: Water shortage persists in parts of Shah Beg Lane and Baghdadi union councils in Lyari and residents of affected areas have threatened to go on strike if steps are not taken for its solution.

A survey of the deficit areas shows that resentment among the people of many localities is growing and in several areas the problem is aggravating to the extent of crisis.

Among the worst-hit areas are Shah Beg Lane and Ali Mohammad Mohalla and localities surrounding Fidha Husain Sheika Road which had witnessed public agitation over water shortage in the past.

A few days ago the Shah

Beg Lane UC nazim had threatened to stage a sit-in before the office of the Town Nazim to protest against persisting water shortage problem in the locality.

Later, he postponed his protest on the assurance of the town nazim that the problem would be taken up to the concerned authorities and he assured the UC nazim that it would be resolved shortly.

Residents of Shah Beg Lane UC limits who have been facing acute water shortage for over a decade said despite repeated assurance by the concerned authorities, there had been no improvement so far in the supply.

According to residents of Baghdadi, contaminated water is being supplied in the locality for the past few days and normal supply to the locality has been stopped for the past few days for reasons best known to the authorities.

They also complained that perennial water shortage problem had not been resolved in the area despite repeated requests made to the authorities concerned.

Complaints of water shortage have also been received from the residents of Daryabad and Nawabad union councils.
