COMMEMORATIVE COIN: Pakistan Navy is celebrating the golden jubilee of the Hangor Day to pay homage to the veterans of the Pakistan-India war of 1971. In this regard, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued a commemorative coin to pay tribute to our brave submariners who successfully sank the Indian Navy warship INS Kukri. The chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should consider using the coin in Pakistan Super League (PSL) final set for Feb 27.

KILLER HIGHWAY: The N-25 Karachi-Quetta motorway is dangerous for commuters, as, according to official figures, around 4,000 people die every year on the road which is one of the busiest highways in terms of goods transportation. It is a single carriageway which is the reason behind most of the accidents. The government should do the needful without delay. After all, it is a matter of life and death for the thousands who use the highway.

HINDUS AND KASHMIR: It was a delight to watch Senator Krishna Kumari Kohli presiding over a Senate session in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day. It was a great message indicative of the difference between Pakistan’s slow move towards moderation and India’s slide toward supremacist ideology. India wants to turn occupied Kashmir into a Hindu-majority area, while the local population, mostly Muslim, remains without even basic facilities under the control of 600,000 troops on the ground.

FOREIGN LOANS: This refers to the report ‘Argentina, IMF ink $44bn debt deal after year-long talks’ (Jan 29). We must be among the most wretched and the poorest of the poor countries the way we were slapped with stringent conditions by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $1bn loan tranche.
The IMF is clearly lending money as a tool to put pressure for political purposes.
