KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday directed senior police officials of Mirp­urkhas to appear before the chief justice along with a detailed report on the gang-rape of two women in Naukot area on Feb 6.

SHC registrar Abdul Razaq through a letter issued to the police authorities called the report while referring to media reports regarding the incident that took place in a village near Naukot.

The court directed the DIG and SSP of Mirpurkhas to appear in person before the SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh on Feb 15 along with a report carrying details of the action so far taken in the gang-rape case.

According to media reports, a woman and a teenage girl of Rajput community were abducted by around 20 persons allegedly belonging to the Tungri community on Feb 6, and subjected to gang-rape.

Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds: Reports said that SSP Asad Chohadhry had suspended the in-charge of Nafees Nagar police post, Gulzar Ali Tungri, with immediate effect and ordered a departmental inquiry against him over allegations that the official kept the women in his house after abduction.

Two of the accused Hayat Tungri and Budho Tungri, obtained pre-arrest bail on Wednesday from the district and sessions court Mirpurkhas.
