ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said the climate change ministry has allocated Rs1.5 billion for projects under the Green Stimulus initiative to introduce electric vehicles.

Talking to this agency, Mr Aslam said there was a need to accelerate the induction of electric vehicles to gain dividends of the first-ever electric vehicle policy.

He said under the Green Stimulus initiative, electric buses would be launched on the mass transit metro bus routes as well as a special route in the federal capital starting from Islamabad zoo to Monal.

“It will help ensure safe, affordable and emission-free transport for citizens and will encourage people to opt for electric vehicles,” he said.

The special assistant said he had opposed the proposed taxes on electric vehicles in the federal cabinet meetings and would continue to advocate low tariffs on the environmental-friendly initiative.
