TAXILA: The School Management Committee (SMC) of the Deaf and Defective Hearing Elementary School Attock has demanded upgradation of the school to the secondary level and filling of all the vacant posts of teachers.
The SMC held a meeting with its Chairman Hafiz Abdul Hameed in the chair on Sunday.
The school was established in 1990 and since then a large number of special children have passed out from the institute despite paucity of teaching staff and other facilities.
The members were informed that the school was facing shortage of teaching staff and at present only four teachers were available against the sanctioned seats of 10 teachers for more than 150 students.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the committee said to get the school upgraded to the secondary level all forums were approached at the district, division and provincial level but to no avail.
He said even the promise of Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Baitul Maal Syed Yawar Bukhari could not materialise.
He said since 2011 due to paucity of regular teaching faculty, the school administration had been imparting education to the students of secondary level by hiring teachers through the school fund.
Despite paucity of staff and lack of permanent teaching faculty, students of the school got distinctions in board exams.
