Ayesha inspires Sindh

KARACHI, Nov 24: Hosts Sindh ‘A’ girls lifted the team title when they downed Punjab ‘A’ in five games in the keenly contested final of the 12th National table tennis championship at the Barkat Bhai hall, Hyderabad, on Thursday, according to information available here.

Ayesha was the main architect of Sindh’s triumph after Bushra Ahzaz lost both her singles. After being tied two-all, Ayesha beat Punjab’s Sadia 11-8, 11-8, 9-11 and 11-7 to help her team clinch the title.

In boys team event, Sindh ‘A’ and Punjab ‘A’ have set a date to clash in the final after winning their respective pre-finals.

While Sindh had the better of NWFP 3-1, Punjab overcome title holders Railways 3-2 in the two semi finals.

Sindh ‘A’ had already beaten Punjab ‘A’ in the league match. The final between Sindh ‘A’ and Punjab ‘A’ will be played on Friday.

Meanwhile, boys and girls singles league matches commenced on Thursday.

Sindh ‘A’ bt Punjab ‘A’ 3-2. Bushra Ahzaz lost to Sadia 5-11, 9-11, 7-11; Ayesha bt Arifa 13-11, 13-11, 11-9; Maliha bt Mubina 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 11-4; Bushra lost to Arifa 8-11, 8-11, 11-7, 7-11; Ayesha bt Sadia 11-8, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8.

Boys team event semi finals:

Sindh ‘A’ bt NWFP 3-1. Usman lost to Waqas 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 6-11, 10-12; Asad bt Rameez 11-5, 11-5, 11-2; Muzammil bt Owais 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 17-15; Asad bt Waqas 11-8, 12-10, 7-11, 9-11, 11-4.

Punjab ‘A’ bt Railways 3-2. Rahim bt Sultan 12-10, 11-7, 11-1; Shozaib lost to Owais 8-11, 8-11, 6-11; Salman bt Waqas 11-5, 11-7, 10-12, 13-11; Rahim lost to Owais 9-11, 8-11, 4-11; Shozaib bt Sultan 11-7, 11-7, 10-12, 11-7.
