BAHAWALPUR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claims to have seized unregistered aphrodisiacs worth thousands of rupees and arrested three people at Fort Abbas, Bahawalnagar, on Friday.

FIA Deputy Director Sarfraz Ali told Dawn an FIA team led by SI Abdul Raoof Baig, on a tip-off, raided a place at Fort Abbas and arrested Abu Bakr and Saeed Ahmed and recovered from their possession unregistered aphrodisiacs.

Another suspect, Muhammad Ahmed, also was arrested while their accomplice Farooq Ahmed was nominated in the FIR registered against them.

EXAM FACILITY: The South Punjab’s Higher Education Department (HED) has established a centre for competitive examinations at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB).

The centre was inaugurated by South Punjab HED Secretary Dr Ehtesham Anwar Mahar here on Friday. He said the centre was meant to provide advisory services as well as preparatory sessions to the students. It was primarily meant for preparing the students for taking up the examinations to join civil services of Pakistan, he said.

He said the Karachi University was the only other facility providing preparatory classes to the CSS aspirants and no other public university in the country had established a full-fledged center for the purpose.

The centre, he said, would contribute towards enhancing the share of South Punjab in general and Bahawalpur in particular in civil services and other decision-making forums which would in turn lead to the development of the region.

He further said the centre would also provide services for the preparation of PMS and PPSC examinations besides SAT and GRE.

IUB Vice Chancellor Dr Athar Mahboob said the date for entrance test as well as schedule of the classes would be notified shortly.

He said the faculty for the centre would comprise the instructors from the university as well as civil servants.
