LAHORE: The Lahore Arts Council (LAC) will arrange a series of performing arts workshops at the Alhamra Cultural Complex, Gaddafi Stadium, and the Alhamra Arts Council, The Mall.

Officials said the workshops were aimed at promoting various genres of performing arts and youngsters in particular would be encouraged to participate.

The council has written letters to educational institutions and contacted their cultural and dramatic societies to express their willingness to participate.

“We want to promote classical dance, singing, acting, instrumental music, puppetry and folktales,” LAC Executive Director Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi told Dawn. Mr Zulfi said there would be nominal charges for these workshops.

Every workshop would continue till three months and the council would issue certificates to the participants, he said.

“We are in contact with leading artistes, musicians and puppeteers who would conduct these workshops. I am determined to organising maximum cultural activities at Alhamra to promote art and culture,” said Mr Zulfi.

He said fine arts workshops including that of calligraphy would also be organised. The workshops’ schedule would be announced soon and these would be advertised in the print media as well as on social media.

He said these workshops would be in addition to the regular classes being conducted at Alhamra under the auspices of the Alhamra Academy of Performing Arts. Prominent artistes would be invited to deliver lectures on their respective domains to bring vibrancy to these workshops, he said.

Artistes such as Hamid Ali Khan, Masood Akhtar, Attaullah Esakhelvi, Arif Lohar, writer and director Syed Noor and others would be invited to grace the sessions, he added.
