Contaminated water

Published January 14, 2022

I AM a resident of HDA Housing Scheme in the Qasimabad town of Hyderabad. The area is being supplied contaminated and foul-smelling water through the supply line. This water cannot be used even for bathing or even for washing clothes, let alone drinking and cooking.

The neighbours have lodged several complaints with the Water and Sanitation Agency’s (Wasa) Hyderabad managing director, but no progress has been made so far. The problem arose after heavy machinery was used to install new drainage lines, which damaged the main water supply line as well as individual connections. Two spots were dug to locate and fix the damaged area, but the problem has persisted.

Both water supply and drainage lines lie close to each other in the same direction, resulting in the contaminated water supply to the area after the damage — thanks to Wasa’s poor planning.

A six-inch-wide pipe about 300 feet in length is what is needed to ensure safe and clean water supply, but the department pays no heed to the requests of the residents.

The authorities, including Wasa Hyderabad, should do whatever needs to be done without any further delay, asit can lead to serious health problems.
