SHEIKHUPURA, Nov 23: A Military Intelligence team handed over four people to police who were arrested in a raid during which three other men, including an MI personnel, were injured near the Ravi Riyan Colony on Wednesday. An MI official said about 25 plainclothes personnel led by Maj Ilyas Qureshi raided a house in Husnain Pura, a locality of Ravi Riyan Colony to arrest some outlaws allegedly involved in anti-state activities.

The official said the outlaws, hiding in the house, opened fire on the raiding party and injured Hawaldar Zulfiqar. In retaliatory fire by the MI personnel, two accused Qamar Abbas and Baber Husain got injured, who were taken to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, where Qamar Abbas was stated to be critical, he said.

The raiding team took into custody Mohsin Raza, Faqir Muhammad, Ramzan, Basharat and Majeed. Four of the accused were handed over to Muridke Saddar police after initial interrogation by MI officials.

According to official sources, the raid was conducted to arrest Ashfaq, alias Shako, a resident of Noon in Muridke tehsil, allegedly involved in fake currency business. Ashfaq was reportedly had links with RAW, the sources said.

The sources said Ashfaq had crossed the border several times and given sensitive information and documents to the RAW officials after getting a huge amount from them. He was also involved in many incidents of swindling, they said.

Muridke DSP Rana Mumtaz said the operation was kept so secret that even the area police was unaware of its nature.

In this connection, a meeting was held in the DPO office in which Headquarter SP Asher Hameed and MI Maj Hashim discussed the operation.

The police have registered a case against Ashfaq, alias Shako, Mohsin Raza, Ramzan, Basharat, Muhammad Majeed, Babar Husain and Qamar Abbas on charges of attacking on MI personnel and other relevant sections.

The sources said the main accused, Ashfaq, managed to escape during the raid as he was present in the house of his brother-in-law Muhammad Ali. Further investigation is under way.

DPO Syed Ibne Hussain remained tightlipped about the operation.
