HYDERABAD, Nov 23: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has announced a two-day training programme to educate taluka and union council nazims and naib nazims and councillors of the district about the Sindh Local Government Ordinance and its enforcement in their jurisdiction.
He was presiding over a meeting of taluka nazims at his office here on Tuesday. DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed and Zafar Rajput, a candidate for the seat of district naib nazim, also attended the meeting.
The nazim said the training course for the Latifabad taluka would be held on Nov 24 and 26, for the City taluka on Nov 26 and 27 and for the Qasimabad taluka on Nov 28 and 29. The course would be held at the taluka council hall. The training programme for the Hyderabad taluka (rural) would be held on Nov 25 and 26 at the district council hall, he added.
He said the district government had arranged trainers and after completion of the course, certificates would be issued to participants.
Mr Jamil said there were many new representatives who did not know about the authority and responsibility delegated to them under the SLGO, adding that the programme would not only be useful in capacity building but also in refining leadership qualities of public representatives at the grass-roots level. Besides, due to proper knowledge, the purpose of good governance and acceleration in development work would also be served, he said.
He asked taluka nazims to conduct a survey of schools and health centres which were in deteriorated condition or closed due to any reason and submit reports by Nov 28.
He said the district government had decided to make all schools and health centres functional to ensure basic facilities of education and health to people at their doorsteps.
He said the district government would provide these institutions with facilities they needed by curtailing other expenditures.
