KARACHI, Nov 23: An additional district and sessions court of South granted on Wednesday bail to three activists of a banned militant outfit in an attempt to murder and police encounter case.
Imran Jamshed, Qari Nafees and Mohammad Athar were arrested by police in May 2005 following a shootout in Mehmoodabad.
Defence counsel Maqboolur Rehman contended that no case of attempt to murder and police encounter was made out as neither any policemen was injured nor any evidence of firing was found in the alleged encounter.
ADJ Shahid Shafeeq after hearing the arguments granted the applications and gave them bail in the sum of RS200,000 each.
NOTICE TO IGP: An additional district and session court of West issued notice to the inspector general of prison, Sindh, for Nov 29 for not producing an under-trial prisoner before the court for the last six months.
Defence counsel for UTP Mufti Sanaullah told the court that his client, facing explosive substance charges, was not being produced before the court for the last six months.
ADJ Ms Hafeez Osman issued notice to IG prison and directed him to explain why UTP was not produced before the court of law for the last six months.
INDICTED: An additional district and session court of West indicted two men, including brother of gangster Arshad Pupoo, in a bus robbery case.
Yasir Arafat, brother of Arshad Pupoo, and Obaidur Rehman were charged with looting an inter-city passenger bus from Jehanabad on July 21, 2004. The two accused, however, denied the charges and pleaded “not guilty”.
The judge fixed Dec 1 for recording statement of the prosecution witness. —PPI
