GILGIT: Three people were killed and eight injured in two road accidents in Ghizer and Skardu as snowfall continued across Gilgit-Baltistan for second day on Wednesday.

Three people lost lives and two sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a ravine after skidding off a snow-covered road in Ghizer on Tuesday.

The police identified the victims as Nasira Alam, 30, a resident of Nomal area of Gilgit, Shakeel Ahmed, 32, of Gupis area of Ghizer and Wajahat Hussain of Chatorkhand, Ghizer.

The condition of the two injured, who were hospitalised, is stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, a passenger van coming from Islamabad to Skardu skidded off the Juglote-Skardu Road near Roundu valley and fell into a ravine, injuring six persons.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital, Skardu, where condition of the two passengers is stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, upper parts of Gilgit-Baltistan received six to eight inches of snow, blocking the major and link roads, including the Karakoram Highway.

Electricity supply to many areas in Astore, Ghizer, Hunza and Nagar was also disrupted.
