PESHAWAR, Nov 22: Governor Khalilur Rehman on Tuesday appreciated a plan chalked out by the Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) for bringing the arms manufacturing sector of Darra Adam Khel under the legal cover.

DEPO, a body working under the Ministry of Defence Production, had proposed reorientation of Darra Adam Khel arms manufacturing sector to export hunting and sporting arms and ammunition.

Defence Export Promotion Organization Director-General Maj-Gen Syed Ali Hamid gave a presentation at a meeting held at the Governor’s House, which was presided over by the governor and attended by officials of the Defence Export Promotion Organization, secretaries of the industries, tourism and archaeology departments and arms manufacturers from Darra Adam Khel.

Gen Hamid and Brig Naveed said that two-phase development strategy had been chalked out for arms manufacturers of Dara Adam Khel.

The concept was aimed at reorienting the weapon and ammunition manufacturers for exports oriented activities to increase manufacturing base for product development and capacity building.

The governor directed the quarters concerned to expedite requirements, especially those pending for decisions at the appropriate level.
