LAHORE: District and local government officials reviewed the cleanliness situation of the city on Monday and decided to take steps to eliminate illegal waste dumping sites in the city and also increase the number of waste collection points.

Punjab Minister for Local Government and Community Development Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed chaired the meeting to review the situation of cleanliness in Lahore.

Commissioner retired Capt Muhammad Usman, Local Government Special Secretary Musarrat Jabeen, Deputy Commissioner Ali Sher Chattha, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Chief Executive Officer Rafia Haider and other officials were present.

Mr Rasheed asked the LWMC to increase the number of waste collection points and find an alternative site for the closed waste collection points within a week.

He directed the LWMC officials to formulate a comprehensive policy for the detection and elimination of ghost employees and to track and dismiss them immediately.

He said LWMC officials should ensure the best cleaning and sanitation arrangements on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Usman also held a meeting on the cleanliness issue and said the cleanliness would be checked on a daily basis at public parks, markets, and model and secondary roads.

He said it was a crime to establish animal farms in the municipal corporation jurisdiction. He said action should be taken against the people involved in setting the waste on fire and under construction buildings should also erect temporary walls around their sites.
