Hudood case for marrying niece

Published November 23, 2005

SAHIWAL, Nov 22: Police registered a Hudood case against a man, his wife and an accomplice. Police said Athar Obaid had contracted a marriage with the daughter of his sister-in-law with the help of his wife Manzooran and accomplice Sarwar.

They said Razia Nazir, a second year student of the Government Girls College, Chichawatni, was kidnapped by her aunt Manzooran, her husband Athar and Sarwar on Oct 1 when she was on way to her college. Manzooran reportedly arranged the marriage of Razia (her sister’s daughter) with her husband.

Police claimed that the reason for this unlawful act was that Razia had inherited a huge property from her deceased mother. Manzooran and her husband had planned to usurp Razia’s property.

Razia’s father Nazir approached ulema who issued an edict (fatwa) that the marriage was un-Islamic. He complained to the Chichawatni city police which registered a case without arrest.

ATTACK: A farmer and his six accomplices allegedly attacked a Mepco team in Asadullahpur village and injured two linemen.

Haji Allah Yar was reportedly a power thief. He and his accomplices attacked a Mepco raiding team with clubs and injured linemen Sarwar and Rashid Ahmad.

Harappa police have registered a case.
