HYDERABAD, Nov 22: The Pakistan Medical Association, HealthSoft, NGO ASAAS and MSc students of telemedicine of the University of Sindh jointly organized an awareness seminar here on Sunday evening to mark the World Children Day.

The theme of the seminar was “Telemedicine and Child Health Issues in Relief Camps”.

District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jameel was chief guest.

The seminar was attended by Sindh DG health Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, Prof Idrees Khan, EDO (CDD) Ibrahim Qureshi, Civil Surgeon Dr Saeed Memon, WHO representative Domicina, telecom expert Irfan Lashari, multimedia specialist Engineer Jawed Dahri and a large number of doctors, ICT specialists, educationists and community leaders.

Mir Mohammed Shah, general secretary of the NGO ASAAS highlighted objectives of the seminar.

Paediatricians Dr Masud Jafri and Hatif Shamsi of the Isra University discussed clinical issues of child health in relief camps with special reference to epidemics.

Psychiatrist Dr Abdul Salam Shaikh portrayed a detailed picture of psychiatric and psychological issues of child health in post-disaster scenario.

He urged that understanding of the issues was vital not only for clinicians but also for all relief workers serving in disaster areas.

Dr Jamil Arain highlighted nutritional issues of child health in relief camps.

Dr Aijaz Qadir Patoli e-health specialist discussed the implementation of the disease early warning system through telemedicine in relief camps.

He said that the DEWS was meant to minimize morbidity and mortality caused by infectious diseases and early detection of any outbreak caused by these diseases for prompt controlling action.

He asserted that telemedicine could enhance effectiveness of DEWS many folds and save lives of many children.
