LOUISVILLE, Nov 20: Muhammad Ali was honoured by Hollywood celebrities here on Saturday in a star-studded gala on the eve of the dedication of a 75 million-dollar Ali museum and cultural centre in his hometown.

About 2,400 people attended festivities honouring the former heavyweight champion. Another 1,000 cheered outside as he walked into a gathering with such names as former US President Bill Clinton and actors Jim Carrey and Angelina Jolie.

The Muhammad Ali Center will be opened to the public on Monday, featuring souvenirs from Ali’s career as well as educational and cultural areas with a mission of personal growth and global peace.

“I wanted more than a building to house my memorabilia,”

Ali said in a written statement.—AFP
