SC rejects DPO’s mediation plea

GUJRANWALA, Nov 19: The Supreme Court on Saturday rejected DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq’s plea regarding mediation between a woman, who was recovered after her abduction, and the accused. The judge ordered the DPO to get the statement of former district council member Rifat Birjis recorded before a judicial magistrate under Section 164 while challan against the accused should be completed.

The judge also directed him to produce Rifat Birjis before the apex court.

Accused Khalid, Sultan and Ghulam Mustafa had abducted their business partner Rifat Birjis over money issue some two weeks ago from her house in Raja village, Sadhoki.

While Kamoki police recovered her unconscious from the house of one of the accused, Sultan, in Baddomalhi on Friday last. She was later admitted to the local DHQ Hospital for treatment.

After getting summons, the Gujranwala DPO appeared before the Supreme Court and produced the ‘mediation deed’ reached between the woman and accused. But the judge rejected the deed and directed the DPO to produce the woman before court on next hearing.

Meanwhile, the police arrested all the accused involved in the abduction case after the Supreme Court took a suo motu notice of the case.
