KARACHI, Jan 25: Twenty-nine vehicles — 15 cars and 14 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Friday, the police said.
Eight cars were hijacked. Seven others were stolen.
Six motorcycles were hijacked. Eight others were stolen.
The police also claimed on Friday to have recovered seven vehicles in the city. The vehicles were Gizri (ACZ-880) and (ACR-313), Gulshan-i-Iqbal (ACB-495), (N-1501) Shahra-i-Noor Jehan, (JL-4820) Orangi Town, (KCX-2956) Soldier Bazaar, and (KAZ-8249) Federal B-Industrial Area.
During the week so far 131 vehicles have been hijacked/ stolen in the city.
On Monday last, 14 vehicles were either hijacked or stolen in the city, mainly in districts South, East and Central.
On Jan 21, 28 vehicles were hijacked/stolen, on Jan 22, 24 vehicles, on Jan 23, 36 vehicles and on Jan 24, 29 vehicles were either stolen or hijacked.
SHOT DEAD: Bandits shot a man to death in Site area on late Thursday night.
The police said that M. Rafiq, aged 40, a bakery-owner, was in his Shahzad Bakery in Zia Colony, Site, with two of his employees, when three armed young men entered the bakery and held those present there hostage at gunpoint.
Rafiq overpowered two of the bandits. Sensing trouble, the third bandit opened fire on Rafiq.
The bullet hit Rafiq which pierced through his head, killing him on the spot.
The assailants escaped, the police said.
Rafiq’s body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
ROAD ACCIDENT: A young man, Ghous Ahmed, died when the car he was driving (AA-7956) collided head on with a passenger coach (PE-4498) near the Port Qasim roundabout on Friday. The passenger coach was travelling at high speed.
The young man died on the spot. Three other men travelling in the car, Kamran, Khizir and Sabir, were injured.
Ghous’s body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for post- mortem.
The coach driver fled the scene.
DIES: A young man died after consuming country liquor in Arambagh police limits on Friday.
The police said that Jaggoo, aged 35, consumed country liquor and collapsed on a street. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
BURNS: A young housewife, Pyari Begum, aged 25, suffered serious burns in TPX police limits on Friday.
She was rushed to Civil Hospital in serious condition where doctors said she had suffered 90 per cent burns.
However, the police immediately failed to ascertain the circumstances in which she suffered burns.
