LAHORE, Nov 18: A group of 25 Pakistani prisoners reached Lahore from India through Wagah border checkpost. The released Pakistanis were received at the checkpost by officials of the Interior Ministry and Punjab Rangers and their relatives.

Majority of the prisoners were those who had overstayed their visas or had inadvertently crossed into the Indian side along the Punjab border. Some of them had been incarcerated in Indian jails for the past 14 years.

Officials said the prisoners would be debriefed by authorities before being allowed to join their families.

BORDER PACT: Border security forces of India and Pakistan will sign an agreement on resolution of border issues, including smuggling of narcotics and inadvertent crossing by civilians, on Saturday in Chandigarh, a BSF official said.

The viewpoints of both the countries were discussed during the opening day of the three-day bi-annual meeting on Thursday, BSF DIG G. S. Sandhu, told reporters here.

“The final sorting out is in process,” the BSF official said after the meeting which was kept out of bound for media people.—Agencies
